I don’t have time now to automate this. I’ll do it next time.

This is something I say to myself often. Sound familiar?

It can feel like a lot of work to automate a task or even create checklists and processes. But this is a one-time effort and once it’s done it forever makes that task easier to complete.

⏳ Control over your time is your most valuable currency

You can be the most successful person with multiple responsibilities, but if you have no control over your time you will not be happy. One solution is to automate your mundane tasks to spend time on the activities you enjoy. Even if you have plenty of time, you’d still want to automate your tasks to have even more free time.

Here is how you can do it:

📝 Keep track of your activities for a week

Make a list of repeating tasks and estimate how much time you can save by automating each one.

Estimate the time required to automate each task. If you already have the tools and know-how to automate then there is no reason to postpone it.

Focus on the tasks that are easiest to automate and save you the most time.

🤓 Automation will make you a lifelong learner

Even if you have to spend some time learning a few tools to automate a task or if the automation saves you only a few minutes, it’s still worth the effort. Spending your time learning something new instead of repeating a task is still a win!

🛠 Automation is not necessarily building a computer program

For example, I’m often reviewing tech resumes and there are common mistakes repeated in every resume. I have simply crafted a list of these mistakes and I ask candidates to review them before sending me their resumes. This has saved me a ton of time!
